The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
