The American champion Confident of Being 'perfectly positioned' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "perfectly prepared" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, following claiming a top-three finish for the fourth instance in five World Cup competitions.

The veteran athlete, who achieved a milestone by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her 142nd career World Cup top-three result.

Strong Return in Val d'Isere

Returning to the iconic venue for the first occasion in eight years, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing the runner-up spot.

"I was slightly lacking enough direction on the initial jump," Vonn said. "Subsequently, I skied well. I'm pleased with my performance today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also finished third in the downhill on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement

Vonn officially retired in February 2019 due to ongoing knee problems. However, she returned to racing in late 2024 after a major knee surgery.

With just over six weeks remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are highly promising.

She already possesses an Olympic gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the next Olympics.

"At the Olympics, I will be where I need to be," Vonn affirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has secured over a professional journey spanning two decades.

She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings.

This current World Cup campaign includes a nine more events taking place before the season finals in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
