In Such Poor Health I Couldn’t Walk When a Man Virtually Carried Me to a Restroom.

At the age of my late teens, my daily commute meant taking an express bus. It was perpetually full and was consistently completely full when I got on.

During a certain commute, I started experiencing quite nauseous as the bus rocked around every turn. I repeatedly told myself to endure for a few more stops so the bus could got to my stop, and then I could make a mad dash to the closest public restroom to throw up.

The bus was approaching the avenue close to the stop when it dawned on me I was unable to last. All of a sudden, it felt as if a curtain fell over me. My vision turned blank and silent; like someone had cut the sound. I said to myself, “I am about to pass out”.

Fortunately, I stood close to the driver of the bus, allowing me to take a few steps toward the driver and requested that the driver to pull over, informing him that I was about to get ill. He promptly opened the entrance and I stumbled out onto the sidewalk.

I was resolved to not get sick in view of a busy multi-lane road, so I gathered myself and started trying to walk across to the park opposite the street, thinking I could I could at least find some privacy among some shrubs to be sick. But then I likely blacked out. I sensed my physical self, yet I couldn’t walk or see clearly, leading me to start inching my way to my intended destination.

“Everything alright, love?”

Right then, someone picked me up. I sensed someone holding me and a man’s voice asked, “Are you okay, dear?” I explained to this mysterious stranger that I had to to vomit. Therefore, he almost helped me walk down into a close-by structure and put me into the female bathroom. He inquired if I needed him to remain with me but I said no.

After a short while, I regained my composure to the point of sitting down and from outside the door came his voice asking, “Do you need anything, love? Is there anything you require?” I could not to stand up at that moment but I was able to thank him and shortly thereafter regained the function of my legs. I got myself home and spent several days healing from what turned out to be a nasty tummy bug.

I never saw his features – only his legs and a large container for tools he held – but he saved me, during a time when I was at my most vulnerable.

Many times, life tends to make people defensive, aggressive and competitive. What he did was the kind of action that melts away that hardening of the heart. He was proof that humanity’s innate tendency leans toward compassion, a trait I cherish about my fellow humans.
