A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a second term in office.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
